Overview
Amelia is a 22 year old university student at a prestigious national university. She is in her final year of studying applied sciences with a physics major. Become immersed in her story as she returns home from class, tired and mentally drained.

Chapter I
Lazy footsteps drag along the concreate pavement as rays of amber fall behind the cloudy horizon; a charming orange haze hangs low in the sky. Making their way to a long hallway, each step echoes in the near dead-silence of the building. The footsteps cease and shortly after, the unmistakable
2
jingle of keys echoes along the hallway followed by the rattling of a door handle; the door creaks softly as it swings on its hinges. With much excitement, a soft voice calls out to the person who just entered the room, “Hi Amelia! How was class today?” The girl, Amelia, looks at her friend with an expression of exhaustion and fatigue.
3
She takes a deep breath in and answers, her voice low and breathy, “I still wonder how that old fart still has his job.” Her friend bursts into laughter before turning her attention to the exhausted Amelia, once her jovial outburst subsided. She is sat on a couch to Amelia’s left;
4
she invites Amelia to sit besides her with a pat on the couch. Amelia puts her backpack on the couch, which after having been carried for over two hours, full of books, felt like she just dropped a bag of stones. Amelia’s friend asks, fully aware of who Amelia was referring to, “So, what was his excuse today?”
5
Amelia replies, imitating the voice of her professor, “During our days here, we used to clock twelve hours on campus. You guys should learn to be more resilient.” Amelia’s friend scoffs at the ridiculous excuse: given as justification for working Amelia’s class 'to-the-bone' as a result of
6
inadequate exam preparations perpetrated by the professor himself. Amelia continues, clearly frustrated by her situation, “Seriously Liz, how can this man still have his job when he’s basically trying to make us fail; intentionally?!” Eliza or "Liz", Amelia’s friend, responds,
7
“I don’t know Amy, that man looks like he’s studied a little too much chemistry for his own good.” Still frustrated, Amelia highlights another point of the day; her voice increases in tone and her face begins to blush with each word uttered as she fumes like an angry bull,
8
“And guess what? He even had the audacity to give us an assignment due tomorrow!” She continues, using the exact words of the professor as he gave the class the assignment, all-the-while imitating his memorable voice and demeanor; facial expressions included,
9
“Since you guys are champs, I think you can handle a simple assignment. It’s due tomorrow. I want your reports in my office by five O’clock in the afternoon tomorrow. No excuses.” Amelia sighs as she leans back into the couch, clearly infuriated by this absurd chain of events.
10
Eliza looks with empathy at her friend and roommate. She stands up and offers to cook dinner for the both of them: something which was uncommon, as the girls preferred to cook their meals at their own convenience. Amelia attempts to stand strong in her decline, but Eliza refuses to take 'no' for an answer and remarks,
11
with hands firmly planted on her hips, “Well, you can say ‘no’ all you want but that won’t stop me. It’s not like you will refuse to eat if I make dinner for you anyways.” Amelia, realizing that she cannot change Eliza’s mind, accepts her generous offer. As Eliza walks off to the kitchen, Amelia stands up and says with a tone of relief,
12
“Hey Liz, I’m going to take a bath. If I’m not out before you’re done, just leave the food on the table. I’ll have dinner later.” Eliza responds from the kitchen, her soft voice echoing across the central living room, “Sure thing Amy. It’s the least I can do for my bestie.”

Chapter II
Amelia walks across the living room towards a short hallway and enters the bathroom: a room completely tiled in a vibrant cream colour with the cozy orange lighting only serving to accentuate the prevailing aesthetic. She walks to the bathtub and, accompanied by a soft squeak,
14
opens the tap which streams hot, steamy water into the ceramic bathtub below. Amelia closes her eyes and takes a deep breath in as she lets the steam rise up towards her face. She remains still for a few moments and then walks out of the bathroom to prepare for her bath.
15
Amelia returns to the bathroom with a fuzzy, peach-coloured towel wrapped around her chest and hanging down to the middle of her thighs. Her hair, now undone, moves wildly with each turn of her head and sticks to her steam-dampened shoulders and upper back. Amelia unravels her towel and hangs it, entering the tub filled with warm water and soap.
16
The warmth of the water is relaxing as it is soothing and Amelia is almost completely lost in her thoughts as the heat relaxes her tense muscles and relieves her mind of the stress of the day. After twenty minutes of relaxation, she takes her bath and leaves the bathroom; the aroma of Eliza’s dinner had crept into the bathroom.
17
Amelia's hair needs about an hour to dry completely without a hair dryer and so she exits the bathroom only towel-clothed and with a second, smaller towel wrapped around her thick, brown hair to absorb the water from it. Amelia walks into the kitchen and finds Eliza taking the pots off of the stove; just in time to serve and enjoy.
18
Eliza turns to see Amelia and her eyebrows perk-up in surprise; she comments, “Amy... why only the towel, again? I don’t want that thing to fall off while I’m looking.” Amelia, now more self-conscious of her state of dress, briefly adjusts her towel and responds with an uneasy tone as she attempts to reassure Eliza that such a thing will not happen,
19
“Relax Eli, it’s not like I don’t know how to secure it.” Eliza comments, with a touch of sarcasm, “Yeah, sure.” Amelia reacts to Eliza’s comment, the sarcasm prodding at her memories, “Hey, that one time it happened was clearly an accident.”
20
Eliza walks towards Amelia giggling and rests her hand on Amelia's shoulder, saying, “Don’t sweat it Amy, I was just tugging at you.” She continues while walking towards the kitchen table and remarks as she begins to untie the knot of her cooking apron,
21
“Food is ready, let’s dig in!” Amelia walks over to the table where the steaming pots of food were. Eliza grabs some plates and cups from the cupboard, along with forks and spoons, and sets them on the counter. The girls share and divide the food and walk towards the central living room to have their supper.

Chapter III
The girls sit on the couch and Eliza points a remote towards a small flat-screen television sitting on a small table. It turns on with a soft, brief, buzzing sound. There is a comedy show running, and so the girls simply sit and watch as they have their meal for a few minutes before talking more about their day.
23
Amelia asks Eliza, curious about her unusually caring demeanor on this particular day, “Eli, what time did you come back home? You seem to be in such a good mood today.” Eliza replies after a brief moment of silence, as if thinking of the best way to answer Amelia's question,
24
“About two in the afternoon. We were let off early today.” Amelia asks a follow up question, unsatisfied with Eliza’s answer, “Okay. But why are you so happy today?” Eliza responds, her voice a little uneven and hesitant, “Umm, no reason. Today just feels great! Why? Am I acting weird?”
25
Amelia remarks, now more suspicious than when she asked her first question, “Well, not exactly. Just a little 'too' friendly, compared to 'normal' you.” Amelia continues, changing her line of questioning to hopefully gain some degree of insight into Eliza's merry mood, “Any word from Osmund today?”
26
The moment Amelia mentions this name, Eliza lets out a short, squeaky giggle as though a pleasent and vivid memory was just triggered. Amelia inquires, now very suspicious that Eliza was not telling her the whole truth, “Eli... Eli, what aren’t you telling me?”
27
Eliza responds defensively, struggling to conceal an obvious smile, “Oh come on Amy, we’re not fourteen-year-olds. If there was something that happened, I’d have told you already.” Amelia comments, her facial expression and tone of voice whet with bountiful doubt and a hint of sarcasm to boot,
28
“Alright. I’ll take your word for it. For now.” Amelia asks another question, changing the topic, “By the way, did you guys manage to complete the solar radiation experiment?” Eliza answers, her voice now much more confident and firm following Amelia's investigation into her day,
29
“Yep. If it wasn’t for our class speaker, we would have definitely been behind in that course. He didn’t stop bothering our instructor until she was pushed to organize the experiment for us.” Amelia has just finished her meal and is ready to go to her room and either start doing her assignment or opt to do it early in the morning instead.
30
She stands up slowly, carefully ensuring her towel did not unravel and fall off as it once did in the same situation, and walks to the kitchen where she washes her plate and utensils in the sink before walking across the living room to the hallway which led to their bedrooms.
31
Amelia enters her bedroom, undoes and tosses her towel on her bed before changing into her pajamas and lays in bed on her stomach. She lies there for ten minutes before sitting up and pulling her laptop out of her backpack. She turns on her laptop and looks over the assignment. Amelia makes her decision:
32
she will wake up early to do it, as it wasn’t too complicated or time-consuming. Amelia turns off her laptop, picks up her phone and sets an alarm before placing it on her side-table and burying herself in her blankets. Her mind still lingers on the events of the day as she slowly drifts into sleep, her body finally getting the much needed rejuvenation it deserved.
